EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
Wild Tuesdays!
Last summer the Lake Erie Islands Nature and Wildlife Center
hosted its first live animal educational shows – Wild Tuesdays!
Every Tuesday afternoon throughout the course of the summer
visitors to Put-In-Bay were given the opportunity to see, HOLD, and
learn about the snakes of the Lake Erie Islands.  Species included
everything from the elusive Northern Ringneck to the gentle giant
Eastern Fox Snakes to the endangered Lake Erie Watersnake.

The Wild Tuesday series was a colossal hit with an estimated 1200+
people attending the shows throughout the summer.  On several
occasions the parking lot to the nature center was flooded with
people and we quickly outgrew our original setup underneath the
porch.  Without a doubt, the most rewarding portion of the Wild
Tuesday programs was watching as many a young child encountered
a snake up-close for the first time.  Often they would start off by
hiding behind older kids or their parents.  After watching others
handle the snakes, and sometimes with gentle prodding from Wild
Tuesday assistants, they would eventually build up the courage to pet
and hold the snakes.  After this happened, we typically had to pry
the snakes out of their hands so that others could get their chance!

This summer Lake Erie Islands Nature and Wildlife Center is proud
to announce a full slate of Wild Tuesday programs. This year we
have broadened our horizons beyond just snakes so that now you
can come learn about everything from birds and bees to fish and
scat. Yes, that is right. Scat.
